Luncheon Speaker

Peter Thomas
Peter Thomas works with his wife, Donna, as a book artist, papermaker and letterpress printer. Together, they write, illustrate, and bind their own books. Throughout 2017-2018 they are celebrating 40 years of making books, and the completion of their 160th editon artist’s book, with a series of shows and workshops across the country. When they began in 1977, their aim was to create books made of the finest materials, produced to the highest standards; making their own paper, printing and illustrating and binding their books. This aesthetic guided their later work with non-traditional book structures and shaped book objects. In 2002 they wrote “More Making Books by Hand: Exploring Miniature Books, Alternative Structures and Found Objects,” a manual for making binding structures they had developed. From 2010-2017 they have intermittently traveled the USA as “Wandering Book Artists,” giving talks, workshops, and demonstrations.
